If you are reading this post, then you probably had landed on Fatma’s blog before; The blog that marked the zenith of Tunisian blogosphere before it received its death sentence…
If you visited it, then you must have dived into Arabicca’s witty, sometimes emotional with a hint of sarcasm and irony, peculiar ocean of words…
Those words weren’t just words, they were the harvest of a field seeded by decades of political, religious and social oppression to say the least. Those words needed to see life, chose Fatma to be the messenger and she just couldn’t resist them; They were magical and powerful, they can make you laugh, scream, cry and dream… They were simply beautiful…
I am guilty of the amalgamation of feelings I acquire when I read her words and I, like many of you, feel overwhelmed with what’s happening to her… She is paying the price of daring and voicing my thoughts, my anger, sadness and happiness.
And for that, I say it loud and clear: I am Fatma and I won’t shut up!
Through my journey in the US, I lived in 2 of the most notorious cities in the HipHop world. I started in Long Beach California, the home of Snoop Dog, Warren G, Dr. Dre, etc… and I now live in the Bay Area where major HipHop artists like 2Pac and Too Short launched their career. I was and still am a big HipHop fan mainly because I felt that is the music by the people and for the people. It talked about the real issues- Racism, police brutality, racial profiling, etc… and it was the loudest voice of minorities… It is one of the things I felt we lacked in Tunisia and we are in a desperate need for, and today, it is with a great pleasure that I introduce you to a Tunisian HipHop Artist who bridged the gap between Tunisian real issues and music in his masterpiece.
